things are personal based on past experiences and current work with animals.<\/h6>\n<h6>\u00a0<\/h6>\n<h6>You can adopt any procedures\/ideas that seem appropriate for your own use.\u00a0 You are designing a checklist for your own locations, situations, and personal behaviors.<\/h6>\n<h6>\u00a0<\/h6>\n<h6>Your safety checklist can have headers like &#8220;home lab,&#8221; &#8220;garden&#8221; or &#8220;field trip,&#8221; or a different organization.\u00a0 Whatever makes it most effective for use.<\/h6>\n<h6>\u00a0<\/h6>\n<h6>You may also want to add procedures that limit exposure to signs, in activities, and on product labels.<\/li>\n<li>Carry a safety kit everywhere, all the time.\u00a0<\/li>\n<li>Wasp sting?\u00a0 Immediately take benadryl and prednisone.\u00a0 Epipen if necessary.<\/li>\n<li>Seek medical assistance if at all unsure about treatment.<\/li>\n<li>Wear gloves when needed; wash hands frequently.<\/li>\n<li>Wear a mask, especially while working around potential rodent feces.<\/li>\n<li>Wear protective footwear and clothing, including sun hats and long sleeves.<\/li>\n<li>Watch loose hair and clothing around animals, chemicals, and flames.<\/li>\n<li>Wear safety goggles or other protective eyewear when working with chemicals or walking along trails with low-lying branches.<\/li>\n<li>Take breaks, avoid over-exertion and use cane even if feeling great.<\/li>\n<li>Avoid &#8220;playing&#8221; with animals to reduce chance of unintentional injury (to me and\/or the animals).<\/li>\n<li>It should be obvious, but don&#8217;t taste or smell without care to reduce hazard.<\/li>\n<li>Don&#8217;t eat or drink around chemicals, animals, or waste products.<\/li>\n<li>Add new safety procedures when needed.<\/li>\n<\/ul> Safety\"><\/noscript>\n<p style=\"text-align: center;\">Yes, these huge wasps would be bad if they establish in the region.\u00a0 They can kill native bees and wasps, and will be dangerous to those of us with bee\/wasp venom allergies and multiple stings may be dangerous to anyone.\u00a0 However, the aftermath of the news stories was also harmful.<\/p>\n<img src=\"http:\/\/biotas.org\/wp-content\/uploads\/2020\/09\/1b2-murder-hornet-f.jpg\" width=\"2500\" height=\"1403\" title=\"1a1 Safety\" alt=\"1a1 Safety\">\n<img src=\"http:\/\/biotas.org\/wp-content\/uploads\/2020\/09\/1b2-murder-hornet-ID.jpg\" title=\"1a1 Safety\" alt=\"1a1 Safety\">\n<p>People began to kill species that looked (to them) like these hornets.\u00a0 Unfortunately that includes beneficial native species already on the decline.\u00a0 Universities and state agencies began posting information to assist people in making correct identification.\u00a0 A news story turned into a public campaign on biodiversity and field I.D.<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: right;\">If we view wasps through the course lens of biodiversity, there are over 100,000 identified wasp species compared to 16,000 bee species, and approximately 13,000 ant species.\u00a0 The vast majority of wasp species are solitary with a single female building a nest for her young.\u00a0 The social wasps are the most commonly known and seen including yellow jackets (in the video) and hornets.<\/p>\n[embed]https:\/\/vimeo.com\/308940206[\/embed]\n<img left;\">Ecologically, the solitary wasps hunt spiders and insects, feeding them (often alive) to their young.\u00a0 Some birds and mammals like skunks eat wasps.\u00a0 The social wasps are more likely to sting as they work together to protect their nests.\u00a0<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: right;\">In a conservation biology sense, wasps are not only significant due to their incredible biodiversity with many species likely still discovered and identified, they also consume massive numbers of potential pests.\u00a0 \u00a0<\/p>\n<img
