left;\">We are heading to aquaria first and even though the organisms that pop into the mind are usually &#8220;FISH&#8221; and we will focus on them, there are often many others species to observe.\u00a0 At the <a href=\"https:\/\/hmsc.oregonstate.edu\">Hatfield Marine Science Center<\/a> in Newport, OR, there are entire exhibits dedicated to marine invertebrates.<\/p> The considerations are similar to deciding which fish to maintain in a large hatchery.<\/strong><\/p> <p style=\"text-align: left;\"><strong>If just starting with an aquarium, it is best to select a species that survives in conditions that are easy to maintain.\u00a0 If you live by saltwater, you could have inexpensive access to a saltwater supply.\u00a0 Otherwise it is easier to start with freshwater since it is already available.\u00a0 Municipal additives like chlorine may have to be removed whenever water is changed.<\/strong><\/p>\n<h6 style=\"text-align: right;\"><strong>Consider selecting a fish that lives in a range close to your home's temperature.\u00a0 Tropical fish may need a heater and coldwater fish may need expensive cooling systems or kept outdoors.<\/strong><\/h6> <h6 style=\"text-align: right;\"><strong>Other considerations include whether the fish are from faster moving water (need more aeration) and whether they need live foods which can be more costly.\u00a0 Purchase a large tank if possible to minimize fluctuations in water conditions, and add animals slowly after nitrogen-processing bacteria and plants have had an opportunity to establish in the substrate.<\/strong><\/h6>\n<img src=\"http:\/\/biotas.org\/wp-content\/uploads\/2020\/11\/shutterstock_735313309.jpg\" width=\"2000\" height=\"350\" title=\"9a1 Aquarium\" alt=\"9a1 Aquarium\">\n\n<h2 style=\"text-align: center;\">Salmon<\/h2>\n<img src=\"http:\/\/biotas.org\/wp-content\/uploads\/2020\/11\/Screen-Shot-2020-11-16-at-5.47.11-PM.png\" width=\"1355\" height=\"350\" title=\"9a1 Aquarium\" alt=\"9a1 Aquarium\">\n<p style=\"text-align: left;\">We are back at the <a href=\"https:\/\/mnch.uoregon.edu\/\">Museum of Natural and Cultural History<\/a> in Eugene, OR.\u00a0 When you think of fish species in the Pacific Northwest that have strongly impacted the lives of first peoples to the region, what fish come to mind?
