About this Guide

Comfort Zone

Visiting animal rehabilitation centers is tougher that I thought it would be.  We are able to get footage for this guide and learn a lot about the animals, but it is also sobering to hear about how the animals were injured and the status of their species.  Many of these facilities struggle to raise money for animal food and veterinary care, but remain dedicated to their conservation mission.  The heartening thing is that there are so many people from diverse backgrounds and with varied beliefs who come together over an interest in animals and their habitats.

Additional Activities

Rehabilitation Centers

Most regions have a variety of wildlife centers that specialize in avian, mammalian, or even reptilian care.  Some supplement donations with public viewing and educational outreach activities.  See if you have any of these facilities nearby, it may be the closest you can get to elusive species.

Lights, Camera…

If you are thinking of photographing specimens, organisms, and other small items, it may be worth investing in a photo tent and lights.  Being able to control lighting, shadows, and reflections makes a noticeable impact on quality.  If it’s not possible to set up a mini studio, many tents, reflectors, and lights collapse for storage or transport.  If you are doing a lot of close-up wildlife photography, a reflector may be almost as valuable as a tripod.

Behind-the-Scenes

It's probably not a big surprise at this point, but we have a "few" panda items. Including panda costumes, stuffed animals, and plenty of books.

Some of the science fiction comics, books, and movies we grew up with are becoming reality. Resurrecting mammoths? That would be science fiction coming to life.
