Constructing Knowledge

All learning and teaching is based on knowing.

An understanding of how we construct knowledge can enhance learning across disciplines.  VividScience produces curricular materials that support incorporating the epistemological theory of knowledge (TOK) in constructing science knowledge.

Theory of Knowledge (TOK)

Applied epistemology incorporates ways of knowing and areas of knowledge in a process of constructing knowledge.  Continual critical thinking in the form of knowledge questions evaluates the weight and value of knowledge and ways of knowing.

Practice of Knowledge (POK)

We have developed a model of using art to represent aspects of the theory of knowledge (TOK).  In the practice of knowledge (POK) model, ways of knowing are represented by objects, areas of knowledge are represented by settings, and the process of constructing knowledge is represented by actions.

Knowing Science

Epistemology provides paths to pursue many of the curricular goals of science teaching, including: experiential activities, transdisciplinary learning, and links between science and society.  VividScience provides specific materials to explore these specific science knowledge goals.  Emphasis is placed on constructing knowledge in real world settings.
